Kennebecasis Valley and Moncton high claimed the championship banners at the 24th annual Miramichi Hoop Classic.

Kennebecasis Valley and Moncton high claimed the championship banners at the 24th annual Miramichi Hoop Classic.  The girls championship game saw the home team MVHS come up just short against the powerful KVHS Crusaders by a score of 54 to 46.  KVHS held a two point advantage at half leading 27-25. The game remained close in the second half with KV up 49-46 with a minute to go. MVHS was not able to get any closer however and KVHS closed out the game.  MVHS advanced to the final with a hard faught win over Woodstock 77-61.  KVHS deafeated a short staffed Carleton North team 75 to 48 in their semi.  In the third place game Woodstock took down their AA rivals from Carleton North 73-61 in what was a much closer game than the score would indicate.  The 5th place game saw Saint John High defeat Southern Victoria by a score of 63-48.  In the 7th place game the home team from James M Hill outlasted Leo Hayes 56 to 50.

The championship game on the men's side saw Moncton High take down Amherst by a score of 70 to 58 behind the hot handed shooting of guard Marc Hofer. This game was close throughout with Amherst trailing by just 3 with 2 minutes remaining.  Moncton High defeated Bernice MacNaughton in their semi 66 to 51 which was another very close game until MHS was able to go on a run late in the 4th quarter. The other semi saw Amherst take down the home team from MVHS 52-51. Jordan Dyck hit a 3 pointer with 12 seconds remaining to put Amherst up by 1 for good.  The third place game was another close game that saw Bernice MacNaughton out last MVHS 70-65.  The 5th place game was claimed by Kennebecasis Valley led by the hot shooting of Bryce Corless 71 to 65 over Charlottetown Rural.  The 7th place game was claimed by the James M Hill Tommies 107 to 86 in a high scoring affair. Noah McCarthy from John Caldwell led all scorers with 58 points.
