Senior EDP Tryout For The North

2018-02-22

Basketball New Brunswick is very pleased to once again be offering the Senior Elite Development Program (EDP) commencing in March in five regions across the province for athletes born in 2001-2004.

Basketball New Brunswick is very pleased to once again be offering the Senior Elite Development Program (EDP) commencing in March in five regions across the province for athletes born in 2001-2004. The program continues to update it's curriculum which aligns with Canada Basketball's Centre for Performance and New Brunswick's style of play designed to allow consistency through Bantam Elite Camp, EDP and our Provincial Team programs. Each session will focus on developing individual skills within the offensive and defensive structure and concepts utilized by our summer provincial teams. The senior program is the key identifier of potential provincial team athletes, and is an integral part of establishing our provincial player depth chart which monitors player's physical and skill development.

SENIOR EDP will include five Identification Sessions around the province, and will be used as the key identifier for a provincial depth chart and the 2018 U17, U16 and U15 teams. The goal of Sr EDP is to have all of our top players learning from an advanced skills-based curriculum to set the stage for future Provincial Team programs. BNB is looking for athletes who are dedicated and committed to improving their skills. To be considered for BNB Provincial Teams athletes are required to participate in EDP. Following the 5 regional ID sessions, there will be three training days in April  which will be used to educate players on provincial team concepts, style of play and overall preparation for tryouts May 5/6.

In rare cases, athletes that are unable to attend any EDP session due to exceptional circumstances (out-of-province, serious illness/injury, doctor's orders, etc) may submit a 'compassionate appeal' to the selection committee, through the Technical Director prior to March 11th, 2018. The committee will assess the merit of each individual case as it is presented to BNB and respond in a timely fashion.

Step 1: Senior EDP will once again be done by invitation. Athletes who played on a BNB provincial team in 2017 will receive an automatic invite to Senior EDP.  New athletes interested in participating will have the opportunity to attend one of five regional ID sessions around the province in March to further improve their chances of being selected. These ID sessions are free of charge and will offer athletes the introductory concepts for the NB Style of Play to be developed at Senior EDP in April. (Returning athletes are still permitted and encouraged to attend if they choose.)
Step 2:  From the regional ID sessions and coach input/consultations, a select number of athletes will be invited (via email once ALL 5 sessions are complete) to take part in the weekend EDP training sessions on April 8th, 15th,and 29th.
Step 3: Final team selections will take place on May 5-6th.
*Jr EDP players (born 2004) are eligible to attend the Sr ID sessions if interested in playing on U15 provincial teams.

Tryouts for the North will be held at Miramichi Valley High School with the girls going 10:00 to 11:30 AM and the boys on from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on March 11th.
