Basketball New Brunswick Elite Development Program Basketball New Brunswick is pleased to once again be running the Elite Development Program (EDP) in preparation for the 2014 summer provincial season. EDP is designed to provide New Brunswick athletes and coaches with the essential skills and drills necessary to compete at an elite level in both provincial and national competitions. The curriculum will include concepts from the Canada Basketball (CB) Centre for Performance and Regional Training Centre programs, as well as a focus on fundamental weaknesses identified through the BNB provincial team and bantam elite EDP will include five Regional Training Centres (RTC) around the province and will be used as a key identifier for a provincial depth chart and the 2014 provincial teams and bantam elite camp. The goal of EDP is to have all of our top players learning from an advanced skills-based curriculum to set the stage for the provincial team program. BNB is looking for athletes who are dedicated and committed to improving their skills. To be eligible for BNB provincial teams or bantam elite camp, athletes must try out in the fall. In May there will be six training sessions leading into provincial team tryouts. The May junior EDP competition day will serve as tryouts for bantam elite camp. Eligible Athletes: Males and Females. Senior EDP – 1997-1999. Junior EDP – 2000-2001. Tryout Procedure: Each RTC will hold a regional ID session. The number of athletes selected will vary RTC Locations: North (Campbellton-Miramichi), East (Moncton-Sackville area), South (St. StephenSussex), West (Nackawic-Edmonston), Central (Fredericton-Oromocto area). Players residing in areas between two regions can choose which RTC to participate with. Fall Training Schedule: Each RTC will have eight training sessions in their region, approximately twice a week, from September 16 through October 20. Training days will vary depending on region. Competition Day: There will be one centralized Competition Day for all EDP athletes on October 20 Coaches: Volunteer coaches will be selected based on experience and geographic region and trained in the advanced skills-based curriculum. Other coaches who are interested in being a part of the EDP program are encouraged to contact BNB or the regional coach in their area. Provincial Team/Bantam Elite Connection: EDP will be used to build a provincial depth chart for the 2014 provincial teams and bantam elite camp. BNB is looking for athletes who are dedicated and committed to improving their skills and EDP is designed to have all of our top players learning from an advanced skills-based curriculum to set the ground-work for these programs. Evaluations will be ongoing throughout the training sessions and the Competition Day. Athletes wishing to be eligible for BNB Provincial teams or bantam elite camp must participate in EDP. Canada Basketball Connection: In the event that BNB is allotted a male and/or female Cadet(te) tryout spot, EDP will play a key role in deciding which athlete(s) will attend these national selection camps along with input from CB based on their evaluations from the 2013 National Championships. Online registration, specific tryout dates and coaches for each RTC will be available the first For more information: Neil.Smith@basketball.nb.ca
